Buffer strips for development

New General Guidance on how to protect watercourses before, during and after development works are undertaken 'Buffer Strips Adjacent to Water Courses and Water Bodies'. This was developed by the DCP Diffuse Pollution group.

Diffuse Pollution Priority Catchments

SEPA

Diffuse Pollution Priority Catchments is a new programme of rural diffuse pollution work which started in March 2010, to help deliver the objectives outlined in the recently published the River Basin Management Plans (RBMPs) for the Scotland and Solway-Tweed river basin districts.

iDee

This is a citizen science project that is developing a new system for members of the public to collect, contribute and access live information about river conditions in the Dee catchment.

Logie Burn restoration

SNH/RDT

Historic meanders at the lower end of the Logie Burn have been restored. We are working in the upper Logie catchment to reduce diffuse pollution from forestry and agriculture.

The REFRESH Programme is investigating the effects of different water protection measures under different climate change scenarios.


Scottish Mink Initiative

RAFTS/AU/SNH

Scottish Mink Initiative is a community based Initiative aiming to protect native wildlife by removing breeding American mink from north Scotland and the Highlands.

The Initiative is part of the Rivers and Fisheries Trusts of Scotland’s Biosecurity and Invasive Non Native Species Programme, implementing a large scale strategic approach to American mink control, as recommended by Scottish Natural Heritage through the Species Action Framework.

The DCP Septic Tanks project has produced and promoted a roadshow pack of information to help septic tank owners manage their systems properly.

Upper Dee floodplain restoration

AC/SEPA/SNH

This project is identifying options for restoration in the floodplain area upstream of Braemar. There is an area of riverbank that has been reinforced with unsuitable materials (old cars, rubble and other waste) and a project group is considering ways in which potential pollution from these materials might be prevented.
